Centennial College's Customer Skills course prepares first-year students with the essential knowledge and skills to excel in Level 1 and Level 2 technical support roles in helpdesk environments. Learners are trained in user interaction, multi-tier incident management problem-solving, communication, and teamwork, using industry-standard Incident Management help desk applications like LBE Help Desk Software. The course focuses on developing the technical and business skills required for entry-level user support roles. Learners aim to build proficiency in troubleshooting, customer communication, and workload management while gaining hands-on experience working with real-world problems. Employers participating in this collaboration are expected to engage in regular communication with students, provide necessary project information, be present during the final presentation, and offer constructive feedback through the Riipen platform. This feedback will guide learners in refining their technical support and customer service abilities. All employer meetings with learners must be held during scheduled class time on Thursdays at 9:30-10:30 am EST, from October 16 to December 4.

This experience connects second-year software engineering students with industry professionals to apply their classroom knowledge in a practical setting. Learners are equipped with skills in software life cycle management, project planning, and software testing, enabling them to contribute effectively to real-world projects. By engaging in this experience, companies can benefit from fresh perspectives and innovative solutions while providing students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a professional context. Participating in a this project collaboration is optional for students in this course. Final project selection is based on student interest, alignment with their academic goals, and instructor guidance. Each student will have a say in which project they work on, ensuring that the collaboration is meaningful and mutually beneficial.  While we strive to create strong matches between students and organizations, we cannot guarantee that every project submitted will be selected.
